It’s no secret that children thrive from being able to express themselves freely. As kids, we wanted nothing more than to participate in hands-on activities. This allowed us to have fun while also providing education. When we saw something that sparked interest, we were eager to try it for ourselves.

Rhythm Discovery Center
Rhythm Discovery Center is an interactive drum and percussion museum. This center is the perfect place to take children who love playing musical instruments. Rhythm Discovery Center’s mission is to create a space where people can learn about musical instruments and their role in cultures. They have an upcoming family friendly event called Community Drum Circleon Saturday, March 9 at 11AM and again at 2 p.m. You can learn more about this event here

The Youth Media Institute
The Youth Media Institute is a program designed for youth who have an interest in media production. They have an afterschool and summer program where they host training courses and workshops. This is a free program that runs every Saturday from 9AM to 1PM for 12 weeks and is geared towards youth ages 13-19. You can learn more about this project and how to apply by following this link.
Cookies & Canvas
Painting isn’t just for adults! Cookies & Canvas offers fun, interactive paint sessions for children and parents. This allows kids to tap into their inner creative while spending quality time with their parents. Classes are located at the Wine & Canvas studio at 5151 E. 82nd St, Suite 700, Indianapolis, IN 46250. Prices to attend are $20 per seat. The Blue House
The Blue House hosts a film camp for youth ages 10-18. Their goal is to educate young people on the basics of film production. During this time individuals are encouraged to utilize their creativity and collaboration skills. They learn about how to create film, how to create scripts, pre-production, editing, and more. Hot Jazz for Cool Kids
This event is for families looking to have a fun time while enjoying jazz music. Featuring Indy’s top jazz musicians, Hot Jazz for Cool Kids is free and takes place Sunday, March 10 from 3PM-4PM. Head to the Central Library, located at 40 East Saint Clair Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204 to take part in the festivities.
Indianapolis Art Center
The Indianapolis Art Center offers high-quality classes for young artists. Their mission is to engage, enlighten, and inspire the Indianapolis community through art.
